Karatina University was privileged to receive the Director, DAAD - Dr. Helmut Blumbach on Wednesday 21st January, 2014 who was accompanied by Dr. Shaban Mayanja, the DAAD Coordinator for German studies in Kenya. The purpose of the visit to help set up German studies at the University following a request. This is one of the requirements by DAAD before mounting German studies or courses in any institution. At the moment, the University is working to mount German studies by the next Academic year. This will promote German language in Mount Kenya Region and beyond.  
The DAAD team made presentations to Senate members on opportunities for PhD studies locally, in Germany and other international institutions associated with DAAD. In addition, guidelines were given on development of curriculum in German studies.
A meeting of Kenyan DAAD Scholars Association (KDSA), Karatina University Chapter was held to discuss their progress, how to  enhance the numbers of DAAD Scholars in the University and how to strengthen  the working relationship between Karatina University and universities in Germany. The close working relation with DAAD Director will open up collaboration opportunities for the University.
